Spring 2021 Classes in the Covid-19 World
We are now taking all student registrations online through our website. Students (new and returning) will click the "Become a Student" button above to fill out a registration form. Then come back and click "TABE Test (Sign up)" to choose a date and time for your intake assessment (TABE test). A single TABE test appointment is all that is required, and students can choose to do it in person (at the ALC in Milwaukee) or remotely/from home. We will assist you in connecting to the video testing session, but you must have a computer, laptop, or Chromebook device with a video camera and microphone. You must have a quiet environment in which to take the TABE test, uninterrupted for up to 2 hours, that has reliable internet service. After that, everything else can be conducted online: classwork, live meetings with teachers, 1-to-1 tutoring, assignments and homework, even final GED exams!
That said, we are also offering in-person tech support for students who need help engaging in online classes, or who don't have a computer or internet access in their own home. Any on-site student interaction is by appointment only. Masks are required, and the building is professionally cleaned daily. All in-house work spaces are properly distanced, such as our computer labs and open-space areas. On-site students will still engage in online learning with ALC teachers and tutors, at the same time as students who are working remotely. These in-person support sessions are by appointment only, and will be discussed further at the TABE/orientation appointment.

Our Impact
The Adult Learning Center is a school for people looking to earn their GED or High School Equivalency Diploma. Our students come to the ALC seeking to improve their lives. They may have been shut out of better-paying work opportunities, denied promotions at their current jobs, or they may simply want more confidence in their ability to support their own children (or grandchildren) with their homework.
Most of our students express a desire to continue on to higher education at college or some type of specialized certification that will allow them to pursue a career that is both personally-fulfilling, and pays a true family-sustaining wage.
